Saturday’s Desert Ridge competition is only a day away, and we still have critical volunteer openings.
Our students dedicate a minimum of six hours each week to rehearsing and perfecting their show, and they need a strong support team behind them so they can focus on performing.
To the parents who assisted last week and have already signed up this week—thank you, the kids truly appreciate your support. To make this weekend a success, we cannot rely on the same small group to cover every role. When life happens and those parents are unavailable, it leaves the band with critical gaps like we are facing right now. We urgently need new volunteers to step forward.
Without enough volunteers, here is what is at stake:
- No second U-Haul driver means no show: We require two U-Haul drivers to transport the band’s instruments, props, uniforms, and equipment. Without a second driver, everything needed for the performance cannot get to the festival, and the band will not be able to perform.
- Student exhaustion: Without enough field and loading support, students have to move heavy props and equipment themselves before and after performing.
- Hydration and recovery: When students are forced to move equipment, it eats into the essential time they need to hydrate, recover, and prepare for the show.
- Performance readiness: Insufficient field support could lead to delays with props, creating unnecessary stress and risking timing penalties that can negatively impact their ABODA score.
- Capturing the performance: The video supports Mrs. Broderick’s show review, while photos capture the students’ hard work and give these special moments a place in the band yearbook.
Our most critical openings are:
- 1 U-Haul Driver — essential; without this driver, the band cannot perform
- Videographer and Photographer — crucial for Mrs. Broderick’s review and preserving band memories
- Field Support volunteers
- Post-Performance Loading volunteers
- Additional departure loading, unloading, and lunch volunteers
We understand that giving up part of a Saturday is difficult, especially for a festival farther from home. When we as parents match the 6+ hours our students dedicate each week with a few hours of our own time, it makes all the difference. Stepping in to help is easy—no prior experience is necessary. Please look at the schedule and consider choosing just one shift.

When more families participate, the workload becomes manageable and our students receive the support they need.
Thank you for stepping up for them!
