Parents and families generally sit in the section next to the band. The Jaguar Pride Marching Band performs the half-time show at home games. Whenever the band plays the school fight song, we all stand — you'll recognize it before long.

Band members are required to stay through the entire football game. As the marching season progresses, we often review our performance after the game. If you are providing the ride home, please allow time after the game for your student to check in and view the performance.

Unless you are volunteering, YES. GoFan is required for any person entering school athletic events and is the only form of payment. Tickets can be purchased ahead of time or via card reader at the event.

Current pricing is posted directly on GoFan — ask Jaguar Guide above if you'd like the current rate before you go.

We respectfully ask that you refrain from talking to band members during games — it causes them to lose focus. Band members already know this rule, and we ask families to honor it as well.

Please silence your cell phones and refrain from flash photography during performances. Enter and exit the auditorium only during applause breaks.

It is customary not to applaud between movements or sections — hold your appreciation until the entire piece is complete. Solo performers are generally recognized after the end of the piece.

Generally, yes. Regional and State honor band concerts may ask for a small fee to offset the cost of guest conductors and clinicians — ask Jaguar Guide for the current amount.

ABODA events are evaluated by six judges using standardized rubrics to assign a weighted score out of 100.

  • Music (2 Judges): Technical proficiency — tone, intonation, ensemble timing, rhythmic accuracy.
  • General Effect: Showmanship and design — emotional, aesthetic, and intellectual impact of music and motion combined.
  • Visual: Drill precision, individual marching technique, and how well the visual reinforces the music.
  • Percussion: Technical execution of the battery and front ensemble. Typically 5–10% of the total score.
  • Auxiliary: Color guard dance and equipment work — uniformity and cleanliness.

Each caption score is weighted — Music and General Effect carry the most influence — to produce the band's final composite score.

Each band has a 15-minute window to enter, perform, and exit. Most bands perform for less than 10 minutes to allow a smooth transition. The clock starts the moment any student, crew member, or prop touches the football field.

  • Starting Line: Bands hold until the previous group begins to exit. Crossing early results in a penalty.
  • The Clock: Begins the moment anyone or anything touches the field.
  • The Exit: All personnel and equipment must be completely off before the 15 minutes expire.

Timing penalties are deducted from the final score — even a few seconds of overlap can significantly affect your ranking.

Auditions are closed to the public and held at various locations. Exact dates are set each year — check the calendar or ask Jaguar Guide for this season's date.

Judges sit behind a screen so they cannot identify the student. Auditions traditionally include scales, three etudes, and sight-reading.

The Solo and Ensemble Festival typically runs alongside Regional Honor Band auditions. Check the calendar or ask Jaguar Guide for this season's date. The public is invited to attend.

Judges require an original copy of the music. Soloists must furnish their own accompanist (live or recorded). Medals are awarded for performance.

Your student is responsible for properly hanging the uniform after each performance. Uniforms are kept at school at all times. There is never any eating or drinking (except water) while in uniform.

Parent volunteers are needed after each home game to help students hang and store uniforms — a great way to get involved!

Students must travel with the band to events and should preferably return with the band as well. Marching band members turn in uniforms at the band room upon return. After concert festivals, staff reviews the performance with students.

If a rare situation requires a student to leave separately, you must contact the director via email at least 24 hours in advance. No exceptions — failure to notify ahead of time will affect the student's grade.

School-owned instruments should go to the director for repair. For instruments you own, we highly recommend Milano Music Center for cost, timeliness, and quality of repairs.

Fair Share is required for all band students — concert, marching, and guard. Winter Guard has its own separate Fair Share in addition.

Fair Share covers:

  • Music licensing for the marching band show
  • Band Camp costs and instruction
  • Show shirt (worn under uniform)
  • Additional band and guard staff
  • Competition entry fees
  • Instrument purchases and repairs
  • Bus transportation to and from competitions
  • Operating fees including copying, Solo & Ensemble judges, etc.

For the current total and payment schedule, visit the Fair Share page or ask Jaguar Guide.

We highly encourage you to look into the Arizona Public School Tax Credit to help offset this cost.

The Arizona Public School Tax Credit is a state tax credit for contributions made directly to a public school for eligible activities. Band and guard are eligible — money paid toward Fair Share can be claimed when you file your state taxes.

Maximum credit amounts are set by the state and can change year to year — ask Jaguar Guide or check the AZ Department of Revenue site for this year's limits.

Please don't miss out on this credit!

Do you have a child in band or guard? Then you're already a booster! Visit the volunteers page to see how to get involved, check the calendar for booster meetings, or contact us with any questions.

Generally the second Thursday of each month during the school year at 6:00 PM in the band room, though the date may shift to accommodate other activities. Check the calendar for the most current schedule.
